Youngstock Evaluations

CHAPS will again be running a series of Youngstock Evaluations for 2013, however there have been a number of changes to the process which are detailed below.

Open to CHAPS(UK) registered horses and ponies. Owners/exhibitors must be CHAPS(UK) Showing Members.

Exhibits will be assessed In-Hand only (under review for 2014) at Halt & Walk/Trot on the Triangle.

Youngstock will now be able to be assessed via two possible routes:
  • Breeding Potential(Stallion/Mare) for Colts & Fillies only
  • Potential Performance (Showing, Eventing, Show Jumping, Dressage) Colts, Fillies & Geldings
It will be the owners' discretion as to the choice of route, but Youngstock can be assessed through either or both (with the exception of Geldings).

Separate Mark sheets will be introduced to reflect the differences in requirements for each route.

There is no limit to the number of times Youngstock can be presented throughout a season, with the exception of those intended as Breeding Potential, where there will be a maximum of two permissible.

The highest score of Youngstock will count in relation to Sire/Dam Breeding and/or Performance values.

It is also envisaged that Youngstock evaluated through the Potential Breeding route, who gain a First Premium, will be allocated a pre-determined percentage towards their final score, when coming forward for full Grading (TBC).

'Performance' 3yr olds MUST be seen loose and will therefore be limited to certain venues with indoor facilities.

First Premium: Awarded to 8 marks and above
Second Premium: 7.5 - 7.99 marks
Third Premium: 7.0 - 7.499 marks
