16.7.2010: Regret that the "Contact Us" page has been removed from site due to severe spam interference!  Please email Admin by using the email address as given.  We understand that Google is still giving this page as active - do not use it, it will be spammed out and not opened.  Thank you

12.7.2010:  Pre-grading inspections for older stallions that do not hold the necessary criteria for entry have been scrapped.  Instead, owners of such stallions have the opportunity of entering the grading at a higher fee.  Membership and horse registration must be in place before entry.

2.7.2010: To apply for a 2011 qualifier card, please use the reverse (2nd page) of the 2010 membership application form.  Fill in the mandatory details (i.e. horse's name, CHAPS reg no, owner's name, owner's CHAPS membership number, type, age, height, etc).  Clearly mark the form for "2011 qualifier card" and submit.  No qualifier card will be issued without this full information being given, no exceptions will be made.  Remember that rulings regarding graded colts and JMB measurement will apply to 3 year olds that will turn 4 on 1.1.11.  The Paypal facility should not be used to apply for qualifer cards - this is for applications with a fee processed through Paypal only

6.5.2010:  The usual last minute scramble is being experienced as closing dates for entries are upon us and memberships and qualifier cards are not in place.  Whilst everything possible is done to accommodate speedy turn arounds, CHAPS are not responsible for any loss of entry fees where entries have been made without the required criteria being in place, or the loss of qualifiers where cards are not present in the ring.   At all times, our policy will be adhered to whereby no application is administered until such time as fees have cleared, and our rules and regulations regarding qualifiers will be stringently upheld.

1.5.2010:  You may be aware that the Fell and Dales pony breeds are unfortunately stricken with an inherited fatal condition now known as Foal Immunodeficiency Syndrome (previously known as Fell Pony Syndrome).  The nature of the condition means that horses and ponies which carry the disease are perfectly healthy and normal, but they may pass the mutation on to their foals.  Foals which inherit the defect from both of their parents then die due to a severe deficiency in their immune system and severe anaemia.  The defect can spread significantly in the population before disease becomes apparent.
Scientists at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket are now anxious to investigate whether this defect has spread to other pony breeds which may have interbred with the Fell or Dales in the past.  They would like to include coloured horses and ponies in this testing, and are looking for owners to help with this screening.  I'm sure that you will agree that it would be better to know as soon as possible if this disease has spread, so that it can be halted.  They need anonymous hair samples to be sent in the post for testing.  If you are willing to help with this research, please contact Dr June Swinburne on
june.swinburne@aht.org.uk giving your name and address and how many ponies you are able to send samples from.  She will then send you sample bags and an s.a.e.

1.4.2010:  £6.60 joining fee/late renewal fee now applies to ALL applications for 2010 memberships!!

26.3.2010:  As closing dates for entries (particularly HOYS) are fast approaching, it has become apparent that many have not renewed their memberships or purchased their HOYS cards.  Please, do not put Administration in the impossible position of having to say "no", and allow plenty of time for the turn around of your applications.  There is no fast-track, all applications are treated strictly in turn as they are received.  The onus is on you to make sure that everything is in place before making your entry!

10.3.2010:  New procedure in place for change of name and/or address of registered owners.  Please notify in writing if your circumstances have changed giving your horse's registration number and his passport number for reference.  A sticker will be sent out to you with the new details shown to be placed onto the ownership page of the passport.  This prevents the to-ing and fro-ing of the passport in the post.  Transfer of ownership procedure, however, remains unchanged.

18.2.2010: There have been several instances lately of membership, registration, etc. applications being sent to the Show Affiliations Secretary address.  Please, all such applications should come direct to the Administration address.  Should there be any charge to repost the applications from one side of the country to the other, this will be invoiced to the applicant.  The Show Affiliations Office does what it says on the tin - show affiliations and judges' memberships only.

5.1.2010:  To comply with regulations, no further horse registrations will be accepted on out of date forms.  Please ensure that any form submitted is the current form as can be found on site, which must be signed off by the vet to show that he has complied with current microchipping procedures.  Any older forms received will be returned to the applicant.  Any 2009 foal registrations received are now considered late registrations, and the higher fee for registration applies.  The horse registration application form should be used, and the covering certificate attached to it for submission.  DNA testing will also be necessary if verified parentage is required.

3.12.2009:  The Animal Health Trust laboratories will be closed between 24.12.2009 and 1.1.2010 inclusive.  Results for samples reaching the laboratory after the 18th December will not be available until the New Year.  This will reflect on any registration applications received with a DNA sample and therefore the turn around time of the passport

27.11.2009:  Stallion owners are reminded that stallion returns should now be either with Admin or in the post - they should be filed with Admin by 31st November of the year of covering.  Owners are also reminded that it is a proviso for the continued recognition of grading and issue of covering certificates that they are current members of this society.

23.10.2009:  The majority of the backlog has now been addressed with a large number of passports being posted out Wednesday, 21.10.2009.  We are back to the 6 week turn around, with the exception of any application that may be pending a query or DNA results.  CHAPS(UK) cannot be held responsible for any delays caused by the postal strikes.
If you have submitted an application for a passport, overstamp or transfer of ownership by recorded or registered post, please track the item via the Royal Mail tracking service.  This will let you know exactly where your item is in their system.

29th September 2009: The revised pages for our passports are now all printed up, and the backlog of applications that were frozen awaiting this page is now being addressed.  Turn around is now standing at a minimum of 6 weeks - whilst we are doing everything as fast as possible, we would ask for your patience in the interim.  Thank you

22nd September 2009:  Hold placed on the recall of passports - awaiting confirmation from DEFRA as to whether or not this is necessary.  Watch this space ............

9th September 2009:  Recall of Passports.  DEFRA have notified CHAPS(UK) that the layout of a page within passports 8260540914140 to 8260540914434 issued from 1.7.2009 is incorrect.  These passports should therefore be returned to either of the addresses below immediately in order that this page can be replaced:
CHAPS (UK)                                     CHAPS(UK)
1 McLaren Cottages                         Little Acorns, Bryn Lane
Abertysswg, Rhymney                     Ridley Wood, Wrexham
Tredegar, NP22 5BH                        LL13 9US
This applies to CHAPS passports only, it does not include any passports that have been overstamped by CHAPS(UK).  Notification will be sent out to registered owners in addition to this post.  This will also have a knock-on effect to pending applied for passports whilst DEFRA approve the resetting of said page before printing, for which we apologise.

17.8.2009: TROPHIES AWARDED AT 2008 CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW: any trophies won at the Championship Show 2008, please return a.s.a.p. to Philip Adshead, c/o Marion Hardy, Knutsford Road, Chelford, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK11 9AS.  Contact 07771 565081 or 01625 861828.  Thank you

14.8.09: Implementations made by the Disciplinary Committee meeting held on 28th July 2009:

1.  To discuss the Disciplinary Case 0902 with regard to alleged misconduct by Ms K Nixon that could possibly bring the Society into disrepute.
After full consideration of the evidence, the Committee decided unanimously that K Nixon was in breach of the abusive behaviour rule.  Letter of reprimand.
2.  To discuss the Disciplinary Case 0903 regarding the judging of HOYS Class at Midlands Counties Show
With regard to J Lewis, the Committee decided to accept her explanation, but that she should be aware that at the moment she is listed only as a conformation judge.  This may be reviewed in the future.
With regard to C Bayley-Machin, the Committee decided that she was guilty of contravening the rules by stripping from the end of the line.   This will be referred to the Judges' Selection Meeting.  Also include points as per J Lewis
3.  To discuss the Disciplinary Case 0904, Improper HOYS Entry
It was unanimously agreed that F Menzies was guilty of breaking the rules for entry into HOYS classes
It was agreed that she should be disqualified from the class and her placing as there is no current HOYS number for her horse.  She must be stripped of the class placing, which should be the responsibility of the Royal Highland.  It was also agreed that a fine of £250 is to be imposed, to be paid within 28 days of the date of the letter (to be sent recorded post).  She is suspended until the payment of the fine.  If the fine is not paid within 28 days, the matter will be referred back to the Disciplinary Committee.
4.  To discuss the Disciplinary Case 0905, alleged misconduct and abusive behaviour.
The Committee decided unanimously that both Mr Meldrum and Ms Saunders were guilty of being abusive towards officials.
Punishment decided to be fixed at a fine of £125 each, to be paid within 28 days of the letter.  Suspension for 3 months for both individuals

As at 14.8.2009, no appeals have been received.

Following a recent Board of Directors meeting, notification is given that the following rule amendment to the Members Handbook should be added with immediate effect:
"No member of CHAPS shall conduct himself/herself in a manner, or be guilty of behaviour, which is derogatory to the character or prejudicial to the interest of CHAPS(UK).  No member shall behave in an offensive or abusive or unpleasant manner to any person at any show"

17.7.2009:  Passport turn around is currently running at 6 weeks.  As soon as the backlog from the "pre-microchip" applications is cleared, this turn around will be reduced!  It is now mandatory that any application for a passport, foal or older horse, must show a microchip number and bar code on the silhouette of the horse.  The silhouette itself and description can then be filled in by the owner.  Microchips are not supplied by CHAPS(UK)

3.7.2009:  We have to announce that there is no longer a link between CHAPS(UK) and Trailblazers.  We regret, therefore, that notification is given that there will be no CHAPS(UK) Championships awarded at the 2009 Trailblazer Finals.
However, if any of our members have qualified for showjumping or dressage finals (not showing), please send your name, membership number, horse's name and CHAPS(UK) registration number to CHAPS(UK) Admin, along with the date and centre of qualification, and your rosette can be forwarded to you.
