CHAPS(UK) run a grading scheme for stallions and mares, download grading guidelines booklet for more information. Click here. Ungraded stallions 4 years old and over may not compete in CHAPS classes, are not recognised as breeding stock and will not be issued with covering certificates. Graded and First Stage Approved Stallions must carry the CHAPS issued id in the ring as per current CHAPS rulings Older stallions (4 years old and over) who do not meet the pedigree requirements as laid out in the Gradings Guideline booklet must apply to be inspected (fee £75.00), and gain a mark of 80% or more before an entry can be accepted for grading Colts (3 years old and under) who do not meet the pedigree requirements as laid out in the Gradings Guideline booklet must gain a 1st premium at a CHAPS evaluation before entry can be accepted (see the "Youngstock Evaluations" page for further details). This premium can be gained at any age (i.e. 1, 2 or 3) and will be honoured.
Any entry for the grading that does not meet the current requirements will be declined, so it is important that the booklet is read and understood before application for grading is made.
